The 2023–24 KHS Lady Mustangs soccer team, under the leadership of Head Coach Adam Bell and Assistant Coach Lauren Martin, wrapped up their regular season as 21-6A District Champions. Hard work, dedication, and a team-first attitude proved critical to achieving this accomplishment. The team, captained by Giselle Clark, Kailee Maddox, and Melanie Oldner, rose up against strong competitors such as Atascocita and Summer Creek High Schools in order to achieve their District 21-6A title.
This season’s top two scorers included Melanie Oldner, with 17 goals this season, and Makenzie Black, with 12 goals. The team’s defense was anchored by goalies Reese Cauthen and Hannah Fite, who only allowed an impressive 24 goals the entire season. The Lady Mustang offense scored 84 goals against opposing teams this season. The Houston Stratford game at the beginning of the season was an incredible example of this team’s ability to play at a high level against a tough non-district schedule, tying 1-1.
As the season concludes, we extend our best wishes to the Lady Mustangs who will continue their athletic pursuits at the collegiate level next year: Kailee Maddox, Nica Sarofaliyeng and Reese Cauthen. A heartfelt congratulations to the graduating seniors, Addison Melton, Ainsley Dillard, Giselle Clark, Isabella Grier, Julianna Herczeg, Kailee Maddox, Lauren Cooper, Madeline Ebert, Lindsay Condon, Nica Sarofaliyeng, and Reese Cauthen. You will be missed.
Although the season ended with a disappointing 1-2 loss to Clear Lake High School in the regional playoffs, we remain optimistic. We are confident that the Lady Mustangs will return next year with renewed vigor, a stronger competitive spirit, and a burning desire to reclaim their title.
