Our region meet was a HUGE success! The boys and girls both proved victorious, with the girls winning their 10th straight regional title in an extremely tight battle (16.5 points) with Summer Creek, and the boys putting on a dominant performance, winning by 200 points for their 8th title in the last 10 years.
To get the action started, our divers put on a show. Gabriel Rodriguez took 3rd and became the first diver since 2009 to qualify for the state meet. In addition, Ethan Bullman finished 5th, and Sebastian Padron-Semprum finished 7th, both securing top 8 spots. For the girls, Michelle Mendoza (11th), Marcy Borrell (14th), and Tessa Christensen (15th) contributed major points to the team.
The swimming finals brought plenty of victories, including regional relay champions in the Boys 200 Free Relay (Blane Gerth, Tyler Tran, Maxwell Griffin, and Reid Rodriguez), our Girls 200 Free Relay (Caitlyn Thibodeaux, Isa Ordonez, Morgan Etter, Christina Donahue) and in an epic battle the girls 400 free relay where our quartet proved victorious (Etter, Ordonez, Ainsley Lindberg, Donahue).
Also earning medals and qualifying for state in the relays:
2nd: Boys Medley: Trevor James, Gerth, Tran, Griffin
2nd: Boys 400 free: Bennett Lowe, James, Kenny Foster, Rodriguez
3rd: Girls Medley: Cara Casperson, Shelby Joslin, Lindberg, Thibodeaux
As for the individuals, our Mustangs snagged 5 individual region #1 titles: Christina Donahue (200 IM), Caitlyn Thibodeaux (50 free), Tyler Tran (100 fly), Reid Rodriguez (100 free) and Trevor James (100 back).
We also had several other additions to our vast medal haul:
