The Kingwood Mustangs are not just defending a title this season. They are defending a standard.
Last spring, Kingwood finished 39–4 and captured the UIL Class 6A Division II State Championship with a 5–4 win over defending champion Tomball in Round Rock. The victory marked the program’s first state title in 20 years and only the second in school history. It also came in just the second season under head coach Michael Oros, a Kingwood alum who has helped restore the Mustangs to the top of Texas high school baseball.
Now the challenge is different. Kingwood is no longer the team trying to break through. They are the team everyone is chasing.
A big reason the Mustangs are considered a contender again is the talent returning from that championship roster. Senior outfielder Graham Charboneau, the State Tournament MVP and a Baylor signee, is back to lead the offense. He brings experience, production, and leadership to a lineup that already knows how to win close games.

Senior Evan Morris provides versatility and stability. Whether in the field or at the plate, Morris gives Kingwood consistency. Junior shortstop Cody Sawyer adds athleticism in the middle of the infield and continues to grow into a reliable bat.
The strength of this team, however, may once again be on the mound.
Will Fiedler, the District 23-6A Co-Pitcher of the Year and a Sam Houston State signee, anchors the staff. Fiedler was a key piece of the state title run and has proven he can handle high pressure moments. Junior Ryder Renfro, a Texas commit, gives the Mustangs another power arm with frontline ability. Left hander Brock Hill, a second-team all-district selection, rounds out a deep and talented group that gives Coach Oros multiple options in a big series.
In Texas 6A baseball, depth matters. Playoff runs are long. District schedules are demanding. Kingwood’s ability to rely on multiple pitchers and experienced position players is what separates them from many opponents.
For head coach Michael Oros, getting back to the state championship is about more than talent. “Our program has now seen what it takes to get to the state championship. It is much more than hits, strikes, and catches. It’s about playing as one, being the best at your job, and doing the little things right. If we can do those things, we will compete to win every game.”
Repeating as state champions is never easy, especially at the highest classification. Every team will bring its best against the Mustangs. But this group has already proven it can win tight games on the biggest stage.
Kingwood is not focused on what happened last year. Inside the program, the message is simple. Stay consistent. Play clean baseball. Compete every inning.
If they do that, the road back to Round Rock is very real. Come out and support this amazing KHS Varsity Baseball team and sell out the stands at home. Go Blue!
