Recap: The 2025 Season Has Begun
The lacrosse season has begun, and Kingwood Ladies Lacrosse is already showing early success with a 2-0 record. Their opening game of the season was held on February 6th at Healy Sportsplex, where the varsity team defeated their opponents 12-4. After the February break, KLL faced Clear Springs at Kingwood High School, securing a 19-4 victory in their game on February 20th. Kingwood Ladies Lacrosse displayed some outstanding plays, extreme hustle, and impressive results from the players. With only two games completed, the season is still far from over. Highlights: Kingwood vs. Klein – February 6th, 2025
Senior Captain Sunny McDowell led the team in points, scoring four goals against Klein—two from open play and two from free position opportunities. Senior Emma Dohse was close behind, with two open-play goals, one free-position goal, and a successful assist. Sophomore Mya Kraynik also showed promise, following closely with two open-play goals and one assist. In addition to the outstanding efforts of these point leaders, many other factors contributed to the team’s success. Senior Captain Sunny McDowell also dominated in draw controls, securing seven possessions off the draw. While the offense worked to maintain the lead, the defense and midfielders collaborated to regain possession and prevent shots on goal. Junior defender Reese McDowell led the team in ground ball control with six ground balls, closely followed by her junior teammate Charlotte Moffett with five. Through the efforts of the stat leaders and the combined teamwork of the players, KLL secured a 12-4 victory in their first game of the season.
Highlights: Kingwood vs. Clear Springs – February 20th, 2025
Senior Captain Sunny McDowell once again demonstrated her importance as a leader of the Kingwood Ladies Lacrosse team, earning the title of top point scorer against Clear Springs with four open-play goals, two free-position goals, and an impressive 100% shooting accuracy. Juniors Alex Kozarsky and Charlotte Moffett also achieved 100% shooting accuracy, with Kozarsky scoring three open-play goals and Moffett adding two open-play goals and one free-position goal. Seniors Erin Flannigan and Sunny McDowell led the team in assists, each contributing two. As a midfielder, Sunny McDowell also led in ground ball control, securing five possessions. Sophomore Shayna Crumbley showed great effort, closely following McDowell with four ground balls. Emphasizing the importance of possession off the draw, McDowell continued to show great commitment by gaining three draw controls, while Sophomore Mya Kraynik added two. Additionally, starting goalie and junior Bella Bolton displayed excellent technique, saving five shots on goal. Despite the cold weather during the evening games, the team united to secure their second win of the season with an impressive score of 19-4.
