This past weekend, Kingwood High School’s production of The Sound of Music brought the story to life, leaving the whole audience smiling. From the moment the curtain opened, it was clear how much heart, time, and talent went into every detail.
The cast was incredible — every performer gave their all, and their voices filled the auditorium with energy and emotion. The sets and costumes were beautifully done, and the live orchestra added so much depth to the performance.
What made the show even more special was how it brought the community together. Students, parents, and volunteers from all around Kingwood worked behind the scenes to make it happen, showing just how much local talent and teamwork go into productions like this.
If you didn’t get a chance to see it yet, there’s still one more weekend of performances — and a few tickets left. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this fantastic show and support the outstanding students who made it all possible.
We asked Senior, Marie Popp to reflect on her 4 years in this great program and share her story of Kingwood Theatre.
“Being in KHS theatre for the past 4 years has been such an amazing experience as I’ve been able to hone my craft and further grow my love for theatre. I’ve met so many wonderful people during these past four years who have helped guide me through a multitude of hardships, such as mental blocks and struggles with confidence. Through my peers, I have been able to truly refurbish my love for the arts. Through shows such as The Sound of Music, our program can help bring the community together by presenting artwork that conveys powerful messages. Although some thematic elements in The Sound of Music are heavy, I believe our program does a good job of highlighting those darker themes and shedding light on them so that history is not forgotten and is instead retold in a way that raises awareness among audiences. In the concert scene, the singular Edelweiss flower stands tall amid Nazi flags, symbolizing courage and strength amid tough situations and hardships.
Each Kingwood Theatre production is carefully curated to positively impact the audience, whether they’re learning a powerful lesson or simply taking in the beauty of live theatre. Through Kingwood Theatre, I’ve learned so much not only about myself but also about the community itself. The impact that each production has on audiences as well as anyone who is working on the show is immense, and I can’t wait to find out what powerful lesson I can apply to my life next as I continue to participate in the upcoming Kingwood Theatre productions this year.” – Marie Popp, Senior KHS Theatre
