Here at Kingwood, our swim team has always been outstanding. We have a great lineup of swimmers and fantastic performances every year during our champs season. With many of our star seniors graduating last year, there were big gaps to fill in our girls’ lineup, but our incoming freshmen did not disappoint. They came onto this team with a fire in their hearts and the speed Kingwood needed to continue our success. Placing a spotlight on them seems like a must, so I’ve reached out to each of the freshmen who have secured a spot on our district team this year. When asked how they have felt about this year and their thoughts on the incoming champs season, they have said the following;
“I am excited for this year’s champs season and I can’t wait to see how we do. I am very happy I have this opportunity to be apart of such an amazing group. I know that everyone on the team will put forward their best effort and I am confident in our ability this season.” -Maitland Dodge
Maitland has worked incredibly hard this season, starting on junior varsity and working her way up to a varsity district qualifier. She has worked so hard for everything she has accomplished, and deserves every ounce of recognition she has gotten for her efforts.
“The season that we have right now is really amazing and the atmosphere of the team is really nice. The champs season we have ahead of us is going to be so much fun and I honestly can’t wait for it. I have a feeling that our team is gonna bring its all for what we have ahead for districts, region and state.” -Harper Dunham
Harper brings lots of spunk and personality to the team. Always a ball of energy, she takes the pool by storm every time she competes. She has been a huge asset to the team this year!
“Being a freshman on varsity has been a blessed experience. I have been able to grow my swimming performance, while sharing many memorable moments with my teammates. With the champs season approaching, I am nervous, but also very excited to see how our team’s hard work pays off.” -Caitlyn Thibodeaux
Caitlyn started off her year strong, placing among our top swimmers at tryouts and living up to that all year. She has been shockingly fast every time she hits the pool, and she has put in the work to be the best version of herself this season. She always puts a smile on peoples’ face and is a great teammate as well as a great swimmer.
“KHS swim has definitely been the highlight of my freshman year! I have met some incredible people who are kind, funny and extremely supportive. Although swimming is an individual sport, this year has really changed my perspective on how team orientated the sport truly can be. I am so excited to head into champs season with such an amazing and encouraging group of people! I am so grateful for everything I have been able to be a part of this year because of KHS swim, and I can’t wait for what’s next!” -Morgan Etter
Morgan is one of the top swimmers on Kingwood this year, placing second at tryouts in only her freshman year. Even though she scores insanely high amounts of points and puts up times some could only dream of, she always stays humble and kind. Without Morgan, we would not be the team we are this season.
“This year, being new to the KHS team, I’ve felt really supported and welcomed by all the girls on the team. Everyone is so kind , encouraging, and such good teammates. Overall , this team encourages me to be a better swimmer and a better person!” -Isabella Ordonez
Isa is another of our top swimmers, placing 3rd at tryouts. She works hard and conquers every obstacle thrown her way with a smile on her face. She holds many of our top times, and she gets faster by the day. She has been a huge point winner and a great team member this season!
Our fantastic freshmen helped secure a season of success for Kingwood’s swim team. These ladies have delivered outstanding performances all year that surpassed anyone’s expectations, and as we move into our championship meets, it will be exciting to see what they can do! There is no better group of freshmen, as swimmers or as people.
