‘Barbie’, directed by Greta Gerwig will hit it off this upcoming weekend with more than $1 billion in ticket sales at the global box office, according to Warner Bros. In the studio’s 100-year history, no movie has sold so many tickets as fast as ‘Barbie’ did, as stated by Jeff Goldstein, Warner’s president of domestic distribution.
In its first two weeks, ‘Barbie’ has surpassed Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ which made $845 million worldwide, as well as Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ that made over $564 million worldwide. With the new movie being a hit, ‘Barbie’ has also passed the new ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ which has produced $683 million, worldwide.
Additionally, many ‘Barbie’ fans are also taking a dip into the movie’s pop soundtrack. As of this month, the top hit ‘Barbie World’ by Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice ft. Aqua was placed at number eight on the billboard charts. Two other hit songs from the movie including ‘Dance the Night’ by Dua Lipa and ‘Pink’ by Lizzo were also placed in the top 20, ranking the soundtrack as one of the very few to have songs from the same list on the top 20 on the billboard.
