Thursday, October 14th was a great day for Kingwood Cross Country!

The cross country district meet, consisting of teams from C.E. King, Humble, Atascocita, North Shore, Summer Creek, West Brook, and Kingwood, was held at Atascocita high school. The varsity boys’ 5k race began at 10:35 am after a one hour rain delay. Kingwood was led by senior Om Gawanker who placed eighth overall with a time of 16:58. Om was followed by teammates Kailash Pillai (10), Jonathan Porras (12), Tyler Wadell (17), Diego Contreras (19), Davin Narhi (22), and Matthew Estes (31). The varsity boys placed second behind Atascocita, securing a spot at the regional meet on Monday, October 25th.

Next was the varsity girls’ 5k race. Junior Carly Ahrens led the team with a second place overall finish and time of 19:21. Close behind Carly came Eliana Contreras (3), Carson Parker (4), Skye Hoffman (5), Lauren Johansson (6), Anastasia Small (7), and Camille Lindberg (8). The varsity girls placed first overall for the tenth year in a row- talk about a legacy of excellence!

The JV boys, led by Erick Putnam, Jack Stanton, and Logan Beach, placed second overall behind Atascocita. The JV girls placed first and were led by Jenna Carter, Julia Shimel, and Mary Vandyke. The freshmen boys placed first overall and certainly got the crowd excited for the next three years. All of the runners showed tremendous resilience at this rainy, muddy meet.

Although the seniors didn’t get the best weather for their last district meet, they sure got a memorable experience! Both varsity teams look forward to yet another incredible performance at regionals!
