After the much-awaited results, Joe Biden has made a resounding win in the 2020 election. This also means that for the first time in history we will have our first female vice-president, which is a significant step forward in the fight for gender equality in politics. Vice President Kamala Harris is making amazing strides in the feminist movement and for women in general. However, this presents an interesting new situation, what are we supposed to call Vice President-Elect Harris’s husband? Since the Vice President has always had a wife, the title has always been the Second Lady. Now that Doug Emhoff will now be serving as the new Second Lady, what are we supposed to call him? The second dude? The vice spouse? As of right now, Emhoff is taking a break from the law firm, at which he is a partner, and is giving his full attention to completing the campaign and being a spokesperson for the White House. While right now we don’t have an official answer on what to call him, the fact that we are even having this conversation is a positive sign that America is moving in the right direction for gender equality.
