The Kingwood Fillies Drill Team had a fabulous 2019-2020 year!

Football season is always a fun way to get the school year started.  The team begins each year with bonding as a team and learning each other’s personalities and work ethic, all while supporting the Kingwood High School football team by cheering them on to victory and performing at halftime. The Fillies enjoyed getting to know each other across all grade levels during this time.

As soon as football season came to an end, competition season began.  The Fillies’ first competition was earlier than usual, so as soon as they returned from Christmas Break, the long hard practices began – from practice every Saturday to early morning practices before school.  These countless hours proved to be very fruitful.  The Fillies were awarded Overall Grand Champions at two local competitions.  They traveled to Nationals in Orlando, Florida and had the amazing experience of dancing in the Contest of Champions at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.  The Fillies won first place for their Team Jazz and Team Lyrical and second place for Team Kick.  Because the Fillies began their Competition Season earlier than usual, they were fortunate enough to have completed their season before the Coronavirus Pandemic began.

The Fillies were heartbroken to not be able to finish the year with their Annual Spring Show, but they will cherish the memories they made as a team over the course of the 2019-2020 school year.

The Class of 2020 Fillies are such a sweet and loving group of girls, so often making an extra effort to build friendships with every single other teammate. These girls have set a good example of what it means to be a Fillie by working hard, stepping up to lead in different areas of the team and school, and showing love to everyone.  The Fillies will miss these girls but want them to remember “once a Fillie always a Fillie”.
