Thursday night at Turner Stadium was about more than a football game. Kingwood hosted the Go Gold Game, bringing awareness to pediatric cancer and supporting organizations like Addis Faith Foundation, which supports families and patients during their fight against cancer. It was a night that reminded everyone in the stands what community and Mustang pride are all about.

Coming off a tough road loss to La Porte, fans showed up ready to cheer on this new Kingwood team that’s already proving it has the pieces to deliver a strong season. And the Mustangs didn’t disappoint. Kingwood rolled past Stratford with a 34-14 win, locking up a winning record at 2-1.

The game belonged to quarterback Landon Hinson and receiver Kye Wehby, who connected again and again to lead the offense. Hinson threw more than 400 yards and three touchdowns, his best since last fall. Wehby did his part too, racking up over 170 yards and two touchdowns, showing the chemistry between the two is something opponents are going to have to deal with all year.

Kingwood’s defense also came to play, holding Stratford from making any real comeback after the third quarter. The Spartans had some moments, with quarterback Gavin Guzman and TJ Robinson creating opportunities for the team. But the Mustangs never let them gain momentum, the mustangs made the fourth quarter look easy to win this game.
For seniors in the stands, this is the team they’ve been waiting for. The excitement isn’t just about this year; it’s about setting the stage for the Class of 2026 and giving Kingwood fans a season to remember.

The Mustangs now get a week off before returning home for their Homecoming Game on September 27th to face their first district match up with Goose Creek Memorial, who have scored at least 30 or more points in every game this season. It will be another big test, but if this last Thursday was any sign, Kingwood is ready.
There’s no place like home, and there’s no better time to show up. Don’t miss this chance to support the Mustangs next week for their Homecoming Game and the rest of the season. Let’s fill the stands each week; Go Blue!
