The Kingwood community is mourning the loss of Michael Presley “Pres” Holcomb, the passion-driven girls’ soccer coach at Kingwood High School, who passed away on April 5th, 2025, at the age of 44. Coach Holcomb’s courageous battle with stage 4 colon cancer, diagnosed back in 2019, was marked by resilience and severe perseverance.
Coach Holcomb was known for his dedication, leadership, and love for the game. Even after being diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in 2019, he didn’t let it stop him, and he kept coaching, staying committed to his team. Many students, parents, and staff said he was one of the most inspiring people they had ever met.
Coach Holcomb grew up in Texas, graduating from Hallsville High School in 1998 and later attending Sam Houston State University. He began coaching in 2003 and eventually joined Kingwood High School in the 2015–2016 school year. Under his leadership, the girls’ soccer team reached big milestones, including a deep playoff run in 2019 and several district championships.
Even while undergoing chemotherapy, Coach Holcomb kept showing up for his players—running practices, attending games, and encouraging everyone to give their best. His strength and spirit brought the team even closer.
Coach Holcomb will be remembered not only as a great coach but also as a role model to many, a fighter, and someone who truly impacted the lives of so many young high school athletes.
