Kingwood DECA, now in its second year, has quickly become a key program within the district, offering students invaluable opportunities to grow, serve, and connect. With 300 members, DECA has not only created a space for students to compete, but also for them to socialize, give back to their community, and feel a sense of belonging. The program has provided students with access to local business leaders, hands-on learning experiences, and a range of activities that foster growth and leadership.

This year, Kingwood DECA introduced two unique programs that have further expanded the club’s impact. First, we launched Business Leadership Lunches, where community business leaders visit Kingwood High School to share their personal career journeys and insights with students. These sessions give our members the chance to learn directly from professionals, gaining advice and motivation for their own futures.
The second new program is our Financial Literacy Initiative, which brings financial literacy education to elementary schools across Humble ISD. This program is a key part of DECA’s advocacy for financial literacy and has been instrumental in helping younger students build foundational skills that will serve them in their future personal and professional lives.

DECA students have also participated in events like the DECA Prom Fashion Show, where they collaborated with local businesses to showcase prom fashions and foster community partnerships.

Additionally, students have competed in various role-plays and projects, with many advancing to state competitions and hopefully heading to nationals. But what does it truly mean to compete in DECA? It’s not just about role-playing; it’s about creating meaningful projects that have a real impact on our community. This year, our DECA projects have tackled important issues such as understanding retail market business, raising awareness for pancreatic cancer, bringing attention to human trafficking, and many other initiatives. Our students aren’t just competing—they’re using their projects to make a difference and improve lives.

Giving back this year has been the highlight of our club with the Ball for All, Card writing for Addis Faith and Ronald Mc Donald House and decorating bags for Kids Meals Houston. We are looking for more ways to connect with the community with partnerships this year with Greenbelt Guardians, cleaning up our community one area at a time and programs like Rad Racing that put on fun runs for amazing causes locally.
Kingwood DECA’s impact extends beyond our own school, as we’ve partnered with DECA clubs at Summer Creek and Atascocita High School to strengthen the DECA movement throughout Humble ISD. Our vision is to eventually bring DECA to Humble High School and Kingwood Park High School, ensuring more students across the district have access to these incredible opportunities.
Looking ahead, DECA’s second semester is full of exciting plans. We’re partnering with HOSA for a DECA-HOSA Competition Fundraiser, which will raise awareness and funds for both clubs while helping send students to state and national competitions. The year will conclude with a student-run, student-planned DECA banquet, showcasing our members’ leadership and dedication.

While competition is a big part of DECA, there are many other ways for students to get involved. From service learning and fundraising to organizing key events, there are numerous opportunities to make a meaningful impact. As the DECA movement grows, Kingwood DECA is eager to continue inspiring students to lead and serve.
