The Grammys is a classic infomercial for the music industry showing the world’s biggest stars, programs, and performances throughout all music genres and milestone moments. So, here are this year’s major stories and takeaways that fans will always remember.
Starting off with Best Theatrical Pop Stars: Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo. This year was huge for Billie Eilish, with one of her most potent and most famous performances being What Was I Made For?, which was featured in the Golden Globe-winning movie Barbie. The second, Olivia Rodrigo, launched her hit song Vampire last year and started the tour in January. Both performances are top songs this year and classics in teenage girls’ playlists.
Next, we have a moment with SZA, with one of the best speeches showing how much the Grammys mean to the artists. SZA was nominated nine times and won three awards, one being the Best R&B Song. When announcer Lizzo first read off her name, SZA was absent, showing her busy yet honest personality. When she showed up on stage, she cut her speech short but got in the best line: “I’m not an attractive crier — have a good evening!”- just enough to show her heartwarming traits.
Then we have Billy Joel, who performed his first new song in seventeen years. A bit before the Grammys, Joel’s Turn the Lights Back On shocked the music industry- his first song back after a while. Many generations and ages came together during this performance, bringing the music industry closer.
And then, of course, it was a massive night for Taylor Swift. This year, Swift won Album of the Year for Midnights and announced her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, which will be released on April 19th.
We have our next prominent artist, Victoria Monet, emerging this year; where she was honored as the best new artist and used her speech as a memory over her past, stating, “I want you to look at this as an example… this award was a fifteen-year pursuit”.
This year was a hit for the artists and celebrities, with awards handed out in over ninety-four categories. Although the music industry this year had a ton of ups and downs, as a whole, it was a significant success with tons of new ideas coming soon.
